Siddhant Lavande's Journey
From career gap to data excellence
Background:
Siddhant Lavande, a B.Com graduate from 2018, faced a significant career gap as he spent 4.5 years preparing for government exams, particularly the MSPSC. Despite the setbacks, Siddhant was determined to pivot his career into the burgeoning field of data analysis. He pursued various data analyst courses, including Power BI and Google Data Analytics, through platforms like Coursera, to build his skills.
The Job Hunt:
Siddhant's job search was an arduous journey that spanned 2-3 months of relentless application. He submitted applications daily, tweaking his resume frequently based on feedback and new insights. Siddhant focused on enhancing his resume to highlight his skills in Excel and SQL, ensuring it stood out to recruiters.
He actively updated his profiles on job portals like Naukri and Indeed, uploading recent versions of his resume to catch the attention of hiring managers. This consistent effort led to multiple interview calls, with some promising leads coming from Indeed, where he even had to submit a project report using Power BI.
The Interview Process:
Siddhant's interview process was thorough, beginning with a call and a manager round, followed by an Excel test. He was given a dataset and asked to perform various tasks, such as:
Using SUMIFS, pivot tables, and VLOOKUP.
Transferring SKUs to another sheet.
Arranging categories row-wise and calculating category-wise sums using DISTINCT and REMOVE DUPLICATE functions.
Creating a pivot table to match values and generate reports.
Despite finding the tasks monotonous at first, Siddhant soon realized the joy and satisfaction of mastering complex formulas. The experience was incredibly helpful and reinforced his confidence in his skills.
